All things swing for February and March 2012

We have lots of fun things coming for you guys in February and March! You can check them out on the calendar, or you can just keep reading.

Saturday evenings are going strong at Nothin' But Swing. We even have a live band coming in on Saturday, February 25th! Devon McCagherty will be bringing us a fantastic 5-piece band to dance our feet off.

The following week, a new session of Red Hot Swing classes will start up:
Swing 1 begins on Wednesday February 29th from 8pm to 9:30pm, and ends six weeks later on April 4th. As usual, you don't need a partner or any experience for this beginner series. All of our dance classes are taught at Dance Victoria studio, 2750 Quadra Street just north of Hillside.

Swing 2 will be 7:35pm to 9pm on Sundays, from February 26th to April 1st (no joke!). We will build on the foundation you learned in Swing 1, giving you a whole pile of fun, useful, and wacky moves while also improving your dance technique. If you've learned to dance somewhere else, this is our usual recommended entry point to Red hot Swing classes.

Swing 3 runs from 6pm to 7:25pm also on Sundays, from February 26th to April 1st. You'll learn how to do a new set of basics that you will have been wondering about, as well as the classic Shim Sham routine, and the usual complement of Charleston. You'll need to have done Swing 2 with us or receive instructor permission to take this series.

The last item on this update is the next assisted practice. We just ran an insanely popular one a couple of days ago, and there was much enthusiasm at the prospect of doing another one. So here's the deal: Tuesday March 6th, from 8pm to 9:30pm at Dance Victoria studio. I'll play music for the hour and a half, and you can work on whatever you like. Both Christabel and I will be available to help you on anything you want. It's like a semi-private lesson crossed with a social dance for a mere $5. You don't even have to register - just show up and have fun!

January 2012 registration is open!

Registration is open for the January 2012 session of classes:

Swing 1 is our beginner series - you need neither a partner nor experience to enjoy Swing 1. Lessons are 7:35pm to 9pm, running weekly from Sunday January 15th to February 19th.

Swing 2 also runs weekly from Sunday January 15th to February 19th, at 6pm to 7:25pm. You don't need a partner for Swing 2, but you do need to have completed our Swing 1 series or otherwise have a solid dance background.

Registration is open for the classes running from October through December!

Regular series:
Swing 1 - 6 weeks, starts on Sunday November 6th
Swing 2 - 6 weeks, starts on Sunday November 6th

Specialty classes:
Blues with Chris and Emma - 3 weeks, starts on Tuesday October 11th
Team Bootcamp - 3 weeks, starts on Tuesday November 1st
Ultimate Swingouts of Ultimate Destiny - 3 weeks, starts on Thursday November 3rd

September 2011 classes

Here's the line-up of classes for the September 2011 session:

Swing 1
Time: 7:35 to 9pm
Dates: Sundays from September 18th to October 30th (except Oct 9th for Thanksgiving)
Swing 1 is the class for you if you're brand new to partner dancing or if you want to work on your fundamentals. You don't need a partner or any experience for this series.

Balboa 1
Time: 6pm to 7:25
Dates: Sundays from September 18th to October 30th (except Oct 9th for Thanksgiving)
Balboa 1 is a second level class - you'll want to have completed Swing 1 or higher with us. It's a phenomenally fun dance that's custom-made for dancing to fast music and/or on crowded dance floors.

Swing 3
Time: 8pm to 9:30
Dates: Thursdays from September 22nd to October 27th
Swing 3 is for dancers who have completed Swing 2, Balboa 1, or a higher level class. We'll work on your swingouts, shim sham, charleston, and laughing your ass off.
